Final Vahana Workboats delivered to complete Royal Navy fleet
Team FISH Marine Design | Composites are pleased to report that the final Vahana workboats have been delivered to the UK MOD, as part of a £48 million contract to replace outdated vessels, used for diving, surveying, and training operations.
Team FISH Marine Design | Composites have been supporting Dorset-based Atlas Elektronik (AEUK) with our expertise on class design, naval architecture, structural engineering and general design for the new workboats.
The new fleet, known as the ‘SEA Class’ have been designed with a standardised hull that is interchangeable, allowing them to be adapted for different tasks. The versatile, modular design will also ensure the ability to carry differing payloads, whilst providing improved speed for the Royal Navy.
The handover of the last two boats – Merlin and Fantome – to the Fleet Hydrography and Meteorology Unit in Devonport marks the contract’s completion and signifies the full operating capability of all vessels.
